Professor G.Sultangaliyeva: Kazakh Khanate - one of key periods in the history of our country

ALMATY. KAZINFORM - Kazakh Khanate, being a nomadic political entity, was different from settled agricultural states. This should facilitate the understanding of features of Kazakhstan's historical path. This has been said by Doctor of Historical Sciences Gulmira Sultangaliyeva, Professor of the Department of History at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in an interview with Kazinform correspondent.

- What are the key events associated with the activity of the Kazakh Khanate? This period of history is associated with a number of issues such as the ethnogenesis of the Kazakh people, the acquisition of the term "Kazakh" as an ethnic meaning, definition of the country's boundaries, special aspects of the control system in the Kazakh Khanate, the principles of the Kazakh Khanate's interaction with neighboring states, the role of Kazakh khans in socio-cultural life of society, and so on. - What measures, in your opinion, should be taken to improve people's awareness on this period of history? Much of our past should be explained by means of written sources, in this case, Kazakh Khanate rulers' letters and other documents written by them. In this regard, I would like to say about the great work done by the historian I.Erofeyeva, who had written the two-volume edition "Epistolary heritage of the Kazakh ruling elite 1675-1821" (Almaty. 2015). - Would you tell us about the meaning of the celebration of the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate. History serves for identity formation of citizens. Therefore, the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate in our country is of high importance. The Kazakh Khanate, being the nomadic political entity, was different from settled agricultural states. And this fact should contribute to understanding of the special features of our country's historical path. - Thank you for the interview.
