Project on nutrition optimization of orphans started in Kazakhstan

ALMATY. November 17. KAZINFORM /Yekaterina Ionova/ A project on nutrition optimization of orphaned children was started in Kazakhstan. It has been announced today in Almaty at the special press conference.

According to the data of the Kazakh Healthcare Ministry, about 40% of children come off in their physical development, over 25% of them suffer from anemia, 16% have other health problems due to insufficient or hypo-nutrition.

The nutrition optimization project will be started from testing of 200 children aged from six months to three years from eight orphanages of Astana, Almaty and regions.

The results of the project will be presented to scientific, medical communities and society of the country. They will be a sample for development of an optimal nutrition model, recommended for use in order to improve physical and intellectual heath of orphaned children.

The project is implemented by the Kazakh Fund of Children Nutrition with the support of "Nestle" company, "Spoon" International Fund, the Kazakh Healthcare Ministry and the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition.
