"Our boy came into this world right on New Year's eve. We wanted to call him Yerbolat, but my husband's parents insisted we should name him Yolka. In Mongolia, where we used to live before moving to Kazakhstan, it is a widely known tradition to name babies born on the New Year's eve - Yolka," said newborn's mother, Almagul Raikhan.

The happy parents hope the name will bring their son good luck.

However, local authorities were not so excited about the baby's name. "They refused to register our son under the name Yolka," Almagul continues. "But it was my husband who won permission to name the boy as we wanted."

The Raikhans moved to Kazakhstan from Mongolia three years ago. Yolka is the second addition to the family, the couple already has a baby girl.
