Puppet Theatre from Kazakhstan wins Grand Prix at Int’l Festival in Russia

The Mangistau Regional Puppet Theatre emerged triumphant at the 1st International Puppet Theaters Festival – Award in honor of Stanislav Zhelezkin held in Russia, Kazinform News Agency cites the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.

The Festival brought together two major theatrical events - the Tea Drinking in Mytishchi Festival and the Theatre Award after Russian people’s artist Stanislav Zhelezkin, established in 2019.

After two tough selection rounds, the Mangistau Regional Puppet Theatre’s performance Zemlya Predkov (‘The Land of Ancestors’) based on the play by Nasyrova claimed the Grand Prix of the Festival in the nomination of the Best Foreign Play. All roles in the play were performed by leading theatre actor Yerzhan Bigashyev.

The performance Zemlya Predkov claimed the award for the best acting work at the 6th International Puppet Theatre Festival Assalaumagaleikum in 2022, received the award in the Best Play about Homeland category at the Kukart Festival in St. Petersburg, the Best Director’s Work award at the Kuralai Festival and the Best Drama award at the Almaty Puppet Festival in 2023.
