MOSCOW. December 24. KAZINFORM Activists of the Older Generation movement picketed the U.S. embassy and the building of the European Union commission on Thursday. "Our protest action came after the pulling down in Kutaisi of a monument to Georgian heroes, who died during the war against Nazism in 1941-1945. Not only war veterans, but also ordinary pensioners and veterans of the labour front are indignant at what happened in Kutaisi," participants in the protest actions told Itar-Tass. "We would like the U.S. and EU authorities to denounce emphatically the actions taken by the Georgian authorities, which intend to re-write our common history."

The Older Generation movement is going to demand from the Georgian authorities the restoration of historic justice and the rebuilding of the memorial complex that was pulled down before May 9, 2010.

The Memorial of War Glory was blown up on the order of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili on December 19, 2009. Two people died as a result of the explosion. The Georgian authorities plan to build new premises of the Georgian parliament at the place, where the monument to Soviet soldiers was located, Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
