Reconstruction of Zhezkazgan copper smeltery to complete in 2017
"Initially it was planned to build ore dressing plants and a leach plant directly at the mines. But for the purpose of reducing capital expenditures it was decided to build the plant on the ground of the Zhezkazgan copper smeltery," he told the meeting at the region's akimat (mayor's office) on the results of the corporation's activity in 2013 and the prospects for the period ahead. According to him, the project will be realized in two stages. It is scheduled to complete its reconstruction in November 2017 and put it on stream in January-February 2018. Last year Kazakhmys disbursed KZT 41 bln in the Karaganda region under the investment programme. One fourth of its investments was forwarded to the development of the existing mines and reconstruction of the enriching factory. This year the corporation is expected to gain a 2% increase of its investments in 2014 as compared to 2013.
