Regular International Meeting on Syria ongoing in Astana

The capital of Kazakhstan is hosting today the 22nd round of the International Meeting on Syria within the Astana Process, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

11 delegations are participating in the event. The Syrian Government’s delegation is led by Ayman Raad, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria, and the Syrian opposition delegation is led by Ahmad Toma.

Those participating in the meeting are the delegations of the guarantor countries. Russia is represented by the President's Special Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev; Türkiye is represented by Director General for the Affairs with Syria of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Mustafa Yurdakul, and Iran is represented by Ali Asghar Khaji, the Iranian Foreign Minister's Senior Advisor for Special Political Affairs.

Representatives of Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as the UN, Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the Red Cross are participating in the meeting as observers.

Earlier, Kazinform reported that on November 11-12, Astana would host the bilateral and trilateral consultations of the delegations following which a plenary session and a press conference would take place. In June 2023, the Astana Process on Syria officially completed its work.
