Renewables cover more than half of Zhetysu region’s electricity consumption

Zhetysu region has generated more than 50% of the electricity it uses with renewable energy, governor Beibit Issabayev said, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Zhetysu holds huge potential to promote the use of renewable energy thanks to its mountain rivers and wind potential. This year, three renewable energy facilities with a design capacity of 42MW worth 23 billion tenge were completed. Six more projects with a capacity of 82MW are set to be realized before 2028. Currently, Zhetysu region produces more than 50% of the electricity it uses with renewable energy, said Issabayev.

According to the governor, the region is witnessing active development of its manufacturing industry, commissioning of 43 new production facilities and expanding the nine existing ones, with over 1,000 people employed, since the region was established.

Presently, Zhetysu region manufactures cement, batteries, ceramic tiles as well as develops compound feed manufacturing. In total, 549 industrial enterprises, where over 30,000 are employed, have been registered in the region.

Since the beginning of the year, Zhetysu region has attracted 396 billion tenge worth of investments with a 38% growth, including 291 billion tenge worth of private investments. The region’s contributions to the state budget stood at 286 billion tenge, while its local budget reaching 106 billion tenge, a 1.6fold increase.
