Rescuers save around 200 people from snow-covered highways countrywide
199 people including 27 children have been rescued from snow-covered roads across Kazakhstan in the past five days, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Ministry of Emergencies.
22 vehicles including one bus were evacuated as well.
According to Magomed Akhriyev, a representative of the ministry, a republican operational headquarters has been set up to coordinate all the actions related to the emergency situations. Similar headquarters are operating in the regions. Apart from that, more than 1,500 evacuation points and warming centers have been opened countrywide.
The ministry also recommends the citizens to take preacautions and plan their trips to other areas with the consideration of weather conditions, and also pay attention to emergency warnings.
Earlier, Kazinform reported that a pile-up crash involving 95 vehicles occurred in Akmola region on January 3.
