Reservoir and hydroelectric dam to be built in Kyzylorda region

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan has announced plans to construct a hydroelectric power plant near Amanotkel village as part of a project to replenish lakes Akshatau and Kamystybas in Aralsk district of the Kyzylorda region. Additionally, a new reservoir is to be built on the Karaozek canal, Kazinform News Agency cites the Ministry’s press service.

The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, met with Kyzylorda region’s residents on the matter.

Furthermore, the Zhidelin reservoir and the Kyzylorda hydrosystem are scheduled for reconstruction. Furthermore, the construction of additional canals is scheduled for 2025-2026. These will feed water from the Syr Darya River to the main Kelintobe canal in Janakorgan District and rural district Sulutobe in Shieli district.

Nurzhan Nurzhigitov highlighted the necessity of these measures for more efficient supply of irrigation water to agriculture and preservation of water bodies in the region.
