Romanian President nominates new PM
BEIJING. April 28. KAZINFORM Romania President Traian Basescu has nominated opposition leader Victor Ponta as prime minister-designate, Kazinform refers to Xinhuanet.
Basescu has also asked Ponta to present a governing program and cabinet lineup to parliament for approval. The nomination comes after the government fell on Friday in a no-confidence vote, as opposition parties seized on widespread public anger over biting austerity measures and corruption.
During the news conference at the presidential palace, Ponta pledged to give Romanians hope that things are moving in the right direction.
Thousands of people have been protesting in Romania in recent months, calling for the government to abandon the belt-tightening measures and give up power.
