Romanian SC Rominserv SRL to help to upgrade petrochemical plant in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. August 2. KAZINFORM JSC Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant (PPCP, northern Kazakhstan, 450 kilometres from Astana) signed an Engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC-contract) with the Romanian SC Rominserv SRL on the modernization of production, Director General of the refinery Shukhrat Danbai told Trend during a phone conversation.

"Today we signed the EPC-contract with the Romanian company SC Rominserv SRL," Danbai said.

He explained that the EPC-contract implies that the partner performs the survey, design and the negotiation works, makes a choice and the purchase of materials and equipment to carry out the project, and performs construction, assembly and commissioning works.

According to him, the project of modernization will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will be completed by March 2016.

"By that time, the plant should receive Euro-4 and Euro-5 products and transfer them to the Kazakh market. The second phase will be completed by the first quarter of 2017, when the power of plant's units will be brought to the level of processing seven million tons of oil a year," Director General said.

However, he noted that the final decision on the implementation of the second phase will be taken after the development of design and estimate construction documents and obtaining the conclusion of state examination in September 2014, Kazinform refers to

According to him, the total cost of the work will be $1.72 billion.

Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant was built in 1978 and was initially technically focused on processing of oil from Western Siberia, which is obtained from the Russian pipeline.

Rominserv is a division and general contractor of the Romanian company Rompetrol Group (is the biggest foreign asset of KazMunaiGas in refining).
