Russia already presented its suggestions regarding NPP construction in Kazakhstan, says FM Lavrov
Rosatom stands ready to share its expertise in construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following his working visit to Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports citing TASS.
Russia is not only ready to lend assistance [in construction of an NPP], but already presented its suggestions. We monitored the referendum, President Tokayev initiated, he gained support in his plans to promote nuclear energy. Rosatom stands ready to present fully its expertise to address this issue with Kazakhstani friends, said Lavrov.
The Russian Foreign Minister also pointed out that Russia is ready to cooperate with ‘relevant agencies and structures in other countries’.
To note, 71.12% of Kazakhstani residents supported the construction of the country’s first-ever nuclear power plant following the national referendum on October 6, 2024.
The country already established a shortlist of reactor technology suppliers, which includes France’s EDF, Russia’s Rosatom, South Korea’s KHNP and China’s CNNC.
Earlier, the Head of State of Kazakhstan called for establishment of an international consortium for construction of a nuclear power plant. The country is to make a final decision to either choose a supplier or a consortium in 2025.
