Russia's Karachay-Cherkessia republic head resigns
MOSCOW. February 26. KAZINFORM Russian President Dmitry Medvedev accepted on Saturday the resignation of the head of Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, in Russia's troubled North Caucasus region, the Kremlin press service said. Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
Following Boris Ebzeyev's resignation, Rashid Temrezov was appointed as Acting President of Karachay-Cherkessia, the statement said.
Ebzeyev, 60, has served as the republic's head since August 2008. He became the first president of Karachay-Cherkessia who was appointed by the Russian president and approved by the local national assembly.
Ebzeyev's resignation comes a day after Medvedev accepted the resignation of Kamchatka governor Alexei Kuzmitsky, who failed to "fulfill potential" of the region. Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru
