Russia to get 10 new frigates in next decade

MOSCOW. October 29. KAZINFORM Russia's Defense Ministry said Friday the country's navy would receive up to 10 new ocean-going frigates in the following 10 years. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

"In the next 10 years, the Russian Navy may receive up to 10 frigates under this project (22350). There is no doubt that Severnaya Verf (a shipyard in St. Petersburg) has sufficient capacity for this," RIA Novosti news agency quoted a source from the Defense Ministry as saying.

Later in the day, the first Admiral Gorshkov-class Project 22350 frigate is scheduled for floating out in St. Petersburg. The ship will also trial a long-range strike.

The Admiral Gorshkov class has a displacement of 4,500 tons, a speed of 29 knots, a range of 4000 nm at 14 knots, and endurance of 15 days.

Currently, the Russian Navy needs about 30 frigates of this type, which is considered the most modern main ocean-going surface ship. Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
