Russian diplomat: West's fears linked with Greek PM's visit to Moscow proved ungrounded

MOSCOW. KAZINFORM - Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' visit to Moscow stirred up a shower of critical comments but the West's fears have proved to be unfounded, Russian Permanent Representative at the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said on Thursday, Kazinform refers to Itar-tass.com.

"There has never been such a huge tide of various critical comments like the one that preceded the visit," he told the Rossiya-1 television channel. "Now, this tide is to subside."

"The gravest fears linked with the visit - that Tsipras might sell Greece's debts to Russia or that he might announce some radical steps in violation of the European Union discipline - have proved to be ungrounded," the Russian diplomat noted.

Chizhov said Russia is not trying to drive a wedge between countries of the European Union, as well as between the EU and the United States.
