Russian Orthodox Church supports holding Congress of World and Traditional Religions in Astana

MOSCOW.  October 27. KAZINFORM  /Narymbek Ismagulov/ The idea of holding the Congress of the Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions in Astana got support of the Russian Orthodox Church. Head of the External Church Relations Department at Moscow Patriarchate Bishop Ilarion of Volokolamsk has made it public at a meeting with the Kazakh Senate Chairman Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, Kazinform reports with a reference to the Senate's press service.

Last Congress of the World and traditional Religions' Leaders in Astana chaired by President Nursultan Nazarbayev was successful and demonstrated necessity of carrying out joint work for reproaching world and traditional religions and confessions, K. Tokayev noted. The Speaker invited representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church to participate in a session of the Secretariat of the IV Congress scheduled for December 2010.  Tokayev highlighted importance of participation of Patriarch Kirill in it who is likely to visit Kazakhstan next year.

He is expected to take part in the IV Religious Congress. Bishop Ilarion is also expected to visit Kazakhstan, the parties noted.
