S Korea hopes Kazakhstan will help settle DPRK's nuclear problem

ASTANA. February 20. KAZINFORM "The fact that the participants of international talks on Iran's nuclear program are going to hold a meeting in Almaty is another proof of the recognition of Kazakhstan's role in the field of non-proliferation," Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Korea to Kazakhstan Pek Chuhen told Kazinform correspondent.

"By denouncing its nuclear arsenal and shutting down the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, Kazakhstan under Nursultan Nazarbayev's leadership has set an example," the South Korean diplomat noted.

The Ambassador stressed it was a touchy issue and urged the participants to be patient. He also added that South Korea closely monitored the process of negotiations because of the analogous problem on the Korean Peninsula.

"As you now, North Korea has carried out a nuclear test strongly commended by the international community. Hopefully, North Korea will say "no" to further attempts to test nuclear weapons. Moreover, we really count on Kazakhstan's contribution to the solution of the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula," Pek Chuhen concluded.
