Saudabayev held meeting of Commission on Mass Destruction Weapons' Nonproliferation

TANA. November 28. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Kazakh Secretary of State Kanat Saudabayev held a regular meeting of the Commission under the President of Kazakhstan on Nonproliferation of Mass Destruction Weapons.

"The results of the Commission's work gave a strong impulse to strengthen the role of Kazakhstan in ensuring global security and enhancing leadership of our Head of State in the global process of nonproliferation and nuclear threat reduction," Saudabayev said.

He noted that a number of international projects were implemented with the participation of the Commission. For example, the transportation of spent nuclear fuel from the BN-350 reactor in Aktau, holding of the international forum "For Nuclear Free World" in Astana and Semey in the year of the 20th anniversary of closure of the Semipalatinsk test site, participation of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in the Nuclear Security Summit in April 2010.

Following the sitting the state agencies were instructed to strengthen the regime of nonproliferation of mass destruction weapons as well as to prepare for the participation in the March 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul.
