SCO member states agreed to enhance security cooperation

BEIJING. April 12. KAZINFORM SCO member states have agreed to enhance cooperation in the next decade in the field of international and regional security. This was announced today by China's Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu at the VII meeting of secretaries of the SCO Security Council in Beijing.

"We should improve the system of the SCO's cooperation in the field of security, warning systems and rapid respons, increase responsiveness and capabilities of the SCO to protect the security and stability in the member states of the organization and the region as a whole," the Minister said.

Following the meeting, the participants agreed on the following measures: firstly - to strengthen exchanges of information, anti-terrorism exercises and co-border services, joint operations, secondly - to promote cooperation to ensure the security of major international events in the interest of multilateral cooperation projects, thirdly  - to strengthen mechanism of cooperation between the anti-drug agencies, fourthly - to fight against cyberterrorism and cybercrime.

In addition, the member countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in preventing and reducing the risks of traditional and nontraditional security. Meng Jianzhu also noted that the Afghan settlement is essential for ensuring peace and stability in the region.

"We are ready to continue to strengthen exchange and cooperation with the member states, promote the development of the SCO, make new contributions to building a harmonious region," he summed up.
Following the meeting, there was signed a protocol of the VII meeting of Security Council secretaries of the SCO member countries.
