SCO welcomes Kazakhstan’s counter-terrorism initiative

On March 29, the 41st meeting of the Council of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) took place under China’s presidency in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

The meeting brought together delegations of relevant bodies of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the SCO RATS Executive Committee.

During the event, the statement was made condemning the terror attacks that took place in Iran’s Kerman on January 3, in the Crocus City Hall building in Russia on March 22 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in Pakistan on March 26. Those present observed a minute of silence for those killed in the terrorist attacks.

The SCO strongly condemns terrorism in all its occurrences and forms. Uncompromising fight against international terrorism is one of the priorities of the SCO and we will make untiring efforts to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism in close cooperation with the world community, said deputy Secretary General of the SCO Nurlan Yermekbayev.

The forum also discussed the issues of detecting and eliminating channels of terrorism financing as well as prevention of the use of the internet for terrorist and extremist purposes.

A number of documents aimed at combating ‘three evils’, including Kazakhstan’s initiative on joint measures for combating challenges of today and threats of terrorism, separatism and extremism threatening the peace, security and stability in the SCO region, were approved.

The meeting also discussed plans for the upcoming period. So, the joint border operation of the border services of the SCO member states ‘Solidarity 2024, is set to be held.

The 42nd meeting of the Council of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) is scheduled to take place in China.
