Sean Curran Dance Company to perform in Kazakhstan
The American contemporary dance company, Seán Curran Company, will tour Kazakhstan from April 13 - 25, visiting Astana, Almaty, and Pavlodar. The tour is being organized by the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, the U.S. Department of State, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Seán Curran Company will also visit Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan as part of their tour of Central Asia, the press service of the US Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan said.
Seán Curran Company is a professional contemporary dance company based in New York, New York. They are performing under the U.S. State Department's DanceMotion USA Program, a program that combines performances with informal opportunities for exchange though workshops, lectures, and master classes.
Seán Curran, Artistic Director and Choreographer, began his dance training with traditional Irish step dancing as a young boy in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to make his mark on the dance world as a leading dancer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Seán Curran's aesthetic emerges from an Irish tradition and his Company melds that folk tradition with modernism, resulting in something truly unique. He has been described by Dance Magazine as "a Master of form". The Los Angeles Times has said, "There's no fresher, more invigorating new American dance now than the choreography of Seán Curran."
Seán Curran Company will perform at the Opera and Ballet Theater in Almaty at 19:00 on April 14, at the Palace of Culture named after Yestay in Pavlodar at 19:00 on April 17, and at the Palace of Peace and Concord in Astana at 19:00 on April 20. The New York-based dance troupe features Séan Curran, E. John Pendleton, M. Joe Doran, Elizabeth Coker Giron, Evan Copeland, Anthony Guglietti, David Gonsier, Rachel Salzman, Rebecca Arends and Shane Rutkowski.
