Secondary education quality improved in Kazakhstan - 2022 PISA ranking
Another issue raised by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Altyn Sapa Awards Ceremony in Astana was the quality of secondary education. According to him, thoroughly planned and properly implemented ideas will bear fruits sooner or later, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Teacher’s status has been raised due to certain decisions and measures taken. A special programme [Ed. - Comfortable Schools] is being implemented to eliminate shortage of schools, he said.
As many as 100 new schools opened their doors countrywide this year, he added.
Today we witness the results of this large-scale work. According to the PISA international rating, the quality of secondary education has been significantly improved in Kazakhstan. Positive changes are observed in other spheres as well, the President said.
Kazakhstan entered the Top 50 countries participating in the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 rating. The international study evaluates quality of knowledge of 15-year-old school students in mathematics, reading and science.
Kazakhstan ranks 46th in mathematics (54th in 2018), and 49th in science (69th in 2018) among 81 countries of the world. As for reading, the country improved its position by eight spots only and stands 61st (69th in 2018).
