Secretary of State chairs session for awarding Kazakh President's prizes and grants for media

ASTANA. June 25. KAZINFORM — Today Marat Tazhin, State Secretary of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has chaired a meeting of the Public Commission for awarding prizes, grants and commendations under the Kazakh President in the field of mass media, Akorda press service reports.

The participants of the meeting are committee members - representatives of the national media, creative unions, associations of journalists, concerned government agencies.

Opening the event M. Tazhin noted the important role of mass media in strengthening the statehood of Kazakhstan and congratulated mass media representatives with upcoming professional holiday — Journalism Day.

"We know that the 21st century is the century of information. Media should make a major contribution to formation of national identity and the development of local patriotism. This year the rules for awarding of prizes, grants and announcements have significantly changed. According to them the prize under the Kazakh President will be awarded only to two best reporters. Today the members of the Commission have an important task", said M.Tazhin.

Commission members noted the high level of journalistic materials as well as their contribution to the coverage of the most important socio-political and socio-economic aspects of modern Kazakhstan.

Following the discussion Social Commission has come to the decision to reward two people with the President's prize, to give two grants to mass media reps and to issue commendations to four creative teams.
