The head of state said that the upcoming international events are important for Belarus. “The regular session of the CSTO Collective Security Council is set to elaborate coordinated approaches to react to occurring challenges and threats. After this session the joint Belarus-Russia army exercise Zapad 2013 [West 2013] will be held,” the Belarus President noted.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the exercise will be held in Belarus and in Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast.

Alexander Lukashenko went on to say that a summit of the CIS heads of state will be held in Minsk in late October. The summit is going to focus on a number of important security issues. In particular, the heads of state will review an interstate program of joint measures to counter terrorism, extremism, drugs and human trafficking, and IT crimes.

The President demanded that those present at the session should present clear reports on the progress in preparing for the upcoming international events. “I would like to know what has already been done, whether there are any problems and what should be discussed or resolved at the governmental or presidential level,” the head of state said.
