Semipalatinsk Test Site to be divided into three zones: N.Ashimov
ASTANA. November 16. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ "The Semipalatinsk Test Site will be divided into three zones", Kazakh Minister of Environmental Protection Nurgali Ashiom has said today at the Governmental Hour in the Kazakh Parliament.
"The testing ground will be divided into three zones: green, pink and red. The green zone is the one where it will be possible to live and work. 80% of the territory will be returned into economic circulation. The pink zone will be open for entrance, but closed for living or working. And the red zone will be closed for entrance, living and working", the Minister said.
According to him, the pink zone is planned to be used for storage of wastes of mercury vapor lamps, radioactive materials with induced radiation.
