Senate holds its new session

Speaker of the upper chamber focused on the priorities set by the President at the opening of the parliamentary session. "President Nursultan Nazarbayev in his speech has clearly identified five priority areas for the current session of the Parliament. We need time to consider and adopt a series of laws to further strengthen economy, development of innovative processes and "green economy". It is also planned to make urgent consideration of amendments to legislation relating to the organization and conduct of the international specialized exhibition "Expo-2017" in Astana", said the Speaker.
Head of the Senate stressed that the Parliament should adopt the documents aimed at improving the criminal and administrative law, law enforcement and judicial system. Kairat Mami drew his colleagues' attention to the problems of the republican budget execution, in particular the use of public funds.
During the meeting under the proposal of Mami the Chamber elected Askar Beisenbayev as a Deputy head of the Senate.
The seven senators appointed by the President's decree were elected to the standing committees of the Senate. Byrganym Aitimova, Sergey Gromov, Lyazzat Kiinov, George Kim joined the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security. Dulat Kustavletov became a member of the Committee on constitutional legislation, the judiciary and law enforcement bodies. Serik Nugerbekov became a member of the Committee on Finance and Budget and Nurlan Orazalin will serve within the Committee on Social and Cultural Development. The Committee on the Environment and Rural Development of the Senate wil be headed by Sergey Kulagin.
