Senate ratified Optional Protocol to International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights

ASTANA. January 15. KAZINFORM Muratbek Makulbekov/ The Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament had adopted Law On ratification of the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights at the plenary session today, Kazinform correspondent reports.

Presenting the bill, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Nurlan Danenov noted that Optional Protocol was aimed at determination of the mechanism of realization of guarantee of human rights and provision of legal protection of his civil and political rights. In accordance with Article 1 of the Optional Protocol member countries of the Covenant recognize the competence of the UN Human Rights Committee. The Optional Protocl was signed by President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2007.
