Senate ratifies amendments to Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete Ozone Layer
"In 1997 Kazakhstan joined the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer," Minister of Environmental Protection Nurgali Ashimov said introducing the bill.
According to him, in 2001 Kazakhstan joined the 1990 London Amendment to the Montreal Protocol and after this Kazakhstan received assistance amounting to over USD 4 mln.
The Amendment to the Montreal Protocol adopted in Copenhagen on November 25, 1992, contains the measures for the control of the production of hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrobromofluorocarbons as well as methyl bromide.
The Amendment adopted in Montreal on September 15-17, 1997, includes requirements to establish the licensing system of import and export of ozone-depleting substances.
