Senate Speaker K. Tokayev meets Greek President K. Papoulias in Athens

ATY. October 12. KAZINFORM Chairman of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament, Vice Speaker of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met today with President of Greece Karolos Papoulias in the Athens within the autumn session of the OSCE PA, the press service of the Senate informs.

At the meeting K. Tokayev stated the countries' striving for a constructive and fruitful dialogue and highly appraised friendly and trustful character of the  Kazakh-Greek relations regarding many topical issues of the international policy.

The Speaker extended K. Papoulias Kazakh President N. Nazarbayev's warm wishes.

"Kazakhstan is interested in development of bilateral cooperation and political contacts with Greece which is a member of all authoritative international organizations and plays a key role in the European Union", Tokayev said.

According to the Speaker, active interaction with Greece in bilateral format will also promote development of the relations within "Kazakhstan-Europe" dialogue.

Touching upon Kazakhstan's oncoming chairmanship in the OSCE, he voiced an opinion that Greek experience and recommendations would undoubtedly be used next year.

"During the negotiations we stated that bilateral contacts between Kazakh and Greek parliaments would promote strengthening interstate relations. We agreed to hold active cooperation within the Friendship Groups in our Parliaments and the OSCE PA", the Speaker said.

Having informed K. Papoulias of the results of the III Congress of the World and Traditional Religions Leaders held in Astana July, Tokayev noted that "multi-national Kazakhstan has become an acknowledged international platform for a dialogue of cultures and religions", the press service of the Senate reports.

K. Papoulias highly spoke of Kazakhstan's successes reached over the years of independence.

Opening of the Kazakhstan Embassy in Greece will positively influence and activate ties in political and trade-economic spheres, K. Papoulias noted and wished success to Kazakhstan in forthcoming OSCE chairmanship.
