Senator Tokayev addresses N Kazakhstan University students on eve of Constitution Day

ASTANA. August 28. KAZINFORM. Friday Senate Chair Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev visited North-Kazakhstan State University as part of his working trip to North Kazakhstan region, the press service of Senate said.

The Senator spoke at the meeting with the faculty staff and students that was devoted to the fourteenth anniversary of the Constitution of Kazakhstan.  He told about the events and arduous work that preceded the adoption of 'Nazarbayev's' Constitution, as Nursultan Nazarbayev was one of the originators of the main law of the country.

In 2007 Kazakhstan made a serious step towards public and political modernization. The updated Constitution envisaged strengthened role and status of the Senate to ensure effective lawmaking process and political stability in the country.

While speaking the Senator touched upon the objectives of Path to Europe program adopted due to future chairmanship of Kazakhstan at the OSCE. "The fact of being the chair of the OSCE is a historical event for Kazakhstan, for it will be the first CIS country from the Central-Asian region to lead such large-scale organization", he said.

Speaking about the goal of Kazakhstan to enter the number of developed and competitive country the Speaker emphasized the meaning of education and upbringing of the youth of a new formation that will be strong enough to build "intelligent society" and "smart economy" .
