Several injured in massive 19 car pile-up in Karaganda region

At least six people sustained injuries Thursday after crashes involving 19 vehicles near Aksu-Ayuly village, Shetskiy district, Karaganda region, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

At 12:30 pm, crashes of nearly 19 cars occurred on the segment of Yekaterinburg-Almaty highway that is under reconstruction in 20km from Aksu-Ayuly village, Karaganda region, informed the press service of the emergency situations department of the region.

According to the press service, a rescue team, psychologists, medics and ambulance staff arrived at the scene. The Emergency Situations Ministry’s all-terrain bus was deployed for those suffered in the accident to keep warm.

Currently, there is no congestion, with vehicles moving on the allocated oncoming lane, added Karaganda region’s emergency situations department.

As a result of the accident, six people were taken to hospital with different injuries.

The preliminary cause of the accident is non-compliance with speed limits and safe distance, said the police department of Karaganda region.

An operational investigative team is currently working at the scene of the accident.

Earlier it was reported that a pile-up crash involving 95 vehicles occurred in Akmola region on January 3, 2025.
