Shymkent Airport to build 2nd runway
The second runway will let avoid flight delays and cancellations due to weather conditions, Kazinform News Agency reports.
On December 25, 2024, the new terminal of Shymkent Airport started operating, with the first Shymkent-Astana regular flight launched, and the first flight from Astana welcomed.
The airport now plans to build the second runway.
“I am confident that after the implementation of this project, there will be no more flight delays and cancellations due to weather conditions. The planes will be able to land even in zero visibility conditions. The design and estimate documentation was submitted for state examination. The runway is set to be expanded, with a capacity to be increased by 60%. The area of the existing trade and logistics center will be expanded in order to boost international cargo transportation. In the future, we plan to implement several major projects,” said Rolan Ibragimov, head of the passenger transport and highways department.
Earlier, Kazinform reported that 8.4 billion is required to restore Arkalyk Airport
