Silent Steppe Cantata premiere dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of Independence took place in Astana

ASTANA. December 13. KAZINFORM On December 10, the U.S. Embassy-supported 20th anniversary project, The Silent Steppe Cantata, received its world premiere before an 800-member audience at the Congress Hall in Astana.

Kazkahstani tenor Timur Bekbosunov, along with the Chamber Choir and Saryarka Folk Ensemble of the Astana Philharmonic, performed the composition by American composer Anne LeBaron, the press service of the US Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan reports.

Ambassador Fairfax opened the concert by noting the special artistic collaboration that resulted in a unique and powerful intertwining of American and Kazakh cultures on stage. Chad Smith, Vice President of Artistic Planning for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, highlighted the importance of such intercultural projects. American filmmaker Sandra Powers screened a rough cut of her film, The Nomad's Song, which documents the creation and development of the multi-year project. The film is expected to be released next year.

The performance was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
