MATY. November 23. KAZINFORM The Silk Road Summit, organized by The Economist Conferences, will convene on November 30-December 1, 20111 in Almaty. The summit will explore the real economic potential of the economies of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, analysing the challenges of doing business in the region in frank dialogue between Government and investors, the press service of the British-Kazakh Society said.

In its heyday, The Silk Road was the world's greatest supply chain. Now, the economies of Central Asia and the South Caucasus are rising again, as the region's strategic location and rich natural resources have international investors beating a path from Europe, China, the Middle East and Asia.

But the huge potential of the Silk Road economies is qualified by a complex risk environment. Trade and investment activities are narrowly focused, leaving many opportunities untapped.

Will the Silk Road countries diversify, and, if so, at what pace?

How can trading conditions be improved and industry sectors made more accessible?

And what can be done to reassure investors about the various tax, regulatory and legal frameworks?

These are just some of the questions we'll be exploring at The Silk Road Summit. Join government ministers from the region, CEOs of local and international corporations and leading investors to debate how the Silk Road countries can best exploit their strategic trading position.

Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the UN will deliver a welcome address via video-link.
