Snow leopard caught on trap camera in E Kazakhstan
The wildlife camera trap caught a glimpse of a rare wild cat in the Katon-Karagay National Park, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the national park's press service.
The rare predator was captured by a camera trap installed in the forest district of the park. "This symbol of strength and freedom is a genuine source of pride for the park. Each such image serves to underscore the vital importance of safeguarding the distinctive natural assets of the Katon-Karagay National Park," the message reads.
It was earlier reported that snow leopards’ population in Kazakhstan is growing by an average of 5-6 individuals annually.
"The population of snow leopards in Kazakhstan is exhibiting a gradual increase. The current population of snow leopards in the country is estimated to be approximately 190 individuals. With the assistance of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, in conjunction with experts engaged in the protection of snow leopards, all requisite conditions have been established in 15 specially designated protected areas within the country. Currently, national nature parks and reserves are secure for these animals. We regularly conduct monitoring and often organize photo zones. As a result, we will be able to analyze the migration of individuals, their life features, and their adaptation to the environment,” Alexey Grachev, head of the center for snow leopard control of the Institute of Zoology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said.
