Snowstorms to batter Kazakhstan throughout Friday

Kazhydromet issued a weather warning for 15 regions of Kazakhstan and Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports. 

Ground blizzard is expected in the Kazakh capital today with wind gusts reaching 15-18 m/s.

Abai, Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, and Ulytau regions are also set to brace for ground blizzard.

Heavy snow and rain are forecast to grip the mountainous areas of Zhambyl region and Karaganda region.

Ice-slick, high wind and fog are expected locally.

Storm alert was also in effect in Astana and 14 regions of Kazakhstan on January 16.
