South Korea plane crash kills 28, rescue efforts ongoing
At least 28 people were killed and many others injured when a passenger plane carrying 181 people crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea. According to authorities, rescue operations and investigation are ongoing, Kazinform News Agency reports.
A Jeju Air passenger plane carrying 181 people crashed while landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday morning, leaving at least 28 people dead and many others injured, however the exact number of victims continues to be updated. The accident occurred at 9:07 a.m. when the flight veered off the runway and collided with a fence, causing significant damage and a fire, which was later extinguished.
Authorities confirmed the fatalities, all found in the tail section of the aircraft, and warned the death toll could rise. According to Yonhap News Agency, 3 people have been rescued so far. Most of the passengers were South Koreans, along with two Thai nationals.

Emergency services are conducting search and rescue operations at the crash site. The cause of the crash remains to be unclear, according to local reports. Acting President Choi Sang-mok has instructed all relevant agencies to focus on rescue efforts and ensure the safety of emergency personnel. Investigators are on-site to determine what led to the tragic accident.
As previously reported, on December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines flight from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau. The plane crash claimed the lives of 38 people, including all six Kazakh citizens on board, leaving 29 survivors.
