‘Sport against diabetes’ health festival kicks off in Almaty

ALMATY. KAZINFORM - The city of Almaty has started a health festival themed "Sport against Diabetes" which involved students from different universities of the city.

According to Denis Lazarev, chairman of the festival, students will compete in football, volleyball, basketball and climbing. The winners of the competitions will be awarded valuable prizes. "The aim of the festival is the promotion of healthy lifestyle among young people. It is an additional step to an active, happy, and healthy life. At present, more than 500 million in the world live with diabetes. About 262 thousand Kazakhstani people are ill with diabetes," said executive director of "Diabetes awareness in Kazakhstan" public fund Natalia Tukalevskaya. She noted that in most cases diabetes occurs due to obesity and sedentary lifestyles. That is why healthy lifestyle and sport are the main prevention measures from the decease.
