Stephen O'Malley took up the position of the UN Resident Coordinator a.i. in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Having more than 25 years of experience in development and humanitarian activity, Mr. Stephen O'Malley has brought vast expertise in this position, strengthening the UN’s commitment to promotion of sustainable development in Kazakhstan, the UN in Kazakhstan posted on Instagram.
Earlier, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that no one has the right to violate the UN Charter.
As for the United Nations, I firmly believe that it needs to be strengthened, because of its irreplaceable nature. Though the Organization has many weaknesses, it has no alternative. Therefore, Kazakhstan is committed to continue cooperation with all countries, that share this position regarding enhancing the UN’s role. Regional powers and middle powers need to be heard, primarily, in the Security Council, which also requires reform, as it finds itself in a deadlock, from which we need to escape. We should support the UN, as it will mark the 80th anniversary next year, stated the Kazakh President.
Earlier, two Kazakhstani peacekeepers were awarded the UN medals for their contribution to maintaining peace and security.
