17-year-old student Solomon Henderson, opened fire in the school cafeteria around 11 a.m., according to Metro Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron. Henderson fatally shot Josselin Corea Escalante, 16, and grazed another male student with a bullet before taking his own life.

Police Chief John Drake said Henderson confronted Escalante before the shooting but noted investigators have not found a connection between Henderson and the victims. The motive remains unclear, and authorities reported the attack may have been random.

A third student suffered minor facial injuries during a fall and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Two school resource officers were on campus at the time but were not near the cafeteria when the shooting occurred. The incident ended before they arrived.

The White House has released a statement regarding the incident that says that the President is monitoring the news.

"As details unfold, the White House offers its heartfelt thoughts and prayers to those impacted by this senseless tragedy and thank the brave first responders responding to the incident," it reads.
