Syzganov National research center of surgery to perform first in Kazakhstan lung transplant

ALMATY. KAZINFORM - A lung transplant is a surgical procedure performed to remove one or both diseased lungs from a patient and replace it with a healthy one from another person.

National Research Center of Surgery named after A. Syzganova will for the first time perform lung transplant, the press service of medical facility informs. According to the experts of the Center, a lung transplant may be recommended for people who have serious lung dysfunction that cannot be improved with maximal medical therapy. According to world statistics, 10 persons per 1 million people need lung transplantation. The center has conducted systematic preparatory work in this direction. Doctors of the center have passed specialization in one of the best centers of transplantation located in the city of Groningen (Netherlands). Moreover, the center has purchased modern equipment used by European surgeons. It is worth noting that the surgical team from Groningen center of transplantation will be invited to participate in the first lung transplant in Kazakhstan.
