Nearly 40,000 people on the island, or about 0.17 percent of its total population, had been infected so far, but were mostly showing minor symptoms, health official Yang Chih-liang said.

Of 47 patients who had so far been in "serious condition", five had died and 10 were hospitalized, disease control director Kuo Hsu-sung said.

Most of the A/H1N1 flu patients would gradually recover if they took the necessary medicine and only a small number had been admitted to hospital, Kuo said; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
