Tashkent to host 16th ECO Summit Nov 8-9

On November 8-9, the capital of Uzbekistan will host the 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Cooperation under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Heads of state and government of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Türkiye are expected to attend the event, the press service of the Uzbek President says.

The summit will discuss further expansion of trade-economic, investment, transport-communication and humanitarian cooperation within the OEC, as well as the improvement of activity of this multilateral structure.

The Economic Cooperation Organization is a regional interstate economic organization established in 1985 by the Central Asian and Middle East countries and is the successor to the Organization for Regional Cooperation for Development, which functioned on the basis of the Izmir Treaty, signed by the three founding countries - Iran, Pakistan and Türkiye on March 12, 1977. Since 1992, the activities of the ECO have intensified significantly with the accession of seven new states - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
