Teacher suspected of selling drugs to schoolchildren in Zhambyl rgn
According to the regional Department of Internal Affairs, the teacher acted within the criminal group engaged in procuring and distribution of drugs in the village of Merke. Shopyrhan Zhapabayev, head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, said investigation revealed that the 50-year-old leader of the organized criminal group and his 44-year-old girlfriend, worked as an English language teacher, had sold drugs to schoolchildren. The crime group included five people. Suspects were arrested on March 5. Police seized more than 4 kg of hashish, about 50 kg of marijuana, 10 grams of cannabis resin, a homemade gun and equipment for hashish production. The detainees put into a temporary detention center. Police initiated 10 criminal cases on charges of distribution, storage and transportation of drugs. Detainees face 15 to 20 years in prison with confiscation of property. In 2013 Zhambyl region police seized 12,940 kg of narcotics.
