Pregnancy and birth rates among adolescents aged 15-17 in Kazakhstan reduced last year as compared to 2023 by 10.2% (3.5 against 3.9 per 1000 population) and 8.2% (2.88 against 3.14 per 1000 population). The number of abortions among adolescent girls also dropped by 13.4%.

According to the Ministry, the reproductive health of children and teens of child-bearing age will directly impact demographic processes over the next 10-15 years.

The UNFPA said the share of teens using modern contraception in the country as well as the regions at large does not exceed 20%.

Teen pregnancy remains a social problem since adolescent parenthood may lead to critical social problems and mental health issues.
