The Almaty Cotton Mill

Construction of the Almaty Cotton Mill began in 1961. In 1965 the cotton mill produced its first products. In 1981 it manufactured the 1 billionth meter of cotton fabric, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The Almaty Cotton Mill ranked among the largest enterprises of  Almaty in the Soviet era.

Until 1992 it had more than 9,000 employees.

After gaining independence Kazakhstan launched the privatization program and handed the cotton mill over to private ownership.
