King Charles III has outlined the government's legislative plans for the upcoming year at the State opening of parliament, reports Kazinform.

In the King's Speech, he announced draft laws focused on nationalising the railways and accelerating the delivery of high-quality infrastructure and housing. The government aims to modernise the asylum and immigration system and remove the VAT exemption for private school fees.

"Securing economic growth will be a fundamental mission. My Government will seek a new partnership with both business and working people and help the country move on from the recent cost of living challenges by prioritising wealth creation for all communities. My Ministers will establish an Industrial Strategy Council. It is my Government’s objective to see rising living standards in all nations and regions in the United Kingdom," stated King Charles III.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer endorsed the plans, stating they will "take the brakes off Britain." Members of Parliament gathered to debate the contents of the King's Speech.

State Opening marks the formal start of Parliament’s working year and The King’s Speech sets out the government’s agenda for the coming session, outlining proposed policies and legislation.

It is the only regular occasion when the three parts of Parliament – the Sovereign, the House of Lords and the House of Commons – meet.

Although the King remains non-partisan, the government is permitted to have him present a moderated version of its electoral agenda.
