Time to pay attention to situation in Afghanistan: R.Hougland

ASTANA. January 28. KAZINFORM /Kurmat Samarkhan/ ?It is high time to pay attention to the situation in Afghanistan and try to settle it?, US Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Kazakhstan Richard Hougland has said today at a briefing, Kazinform reports.

?Without estimation of the activities of international forces in Afghanistan, we see international consensus on the necessity of military prescriptive in the country. However, it is high time to review the problem and think how to solve it?, the diplomat noted. As for the postponement of presidential elections in Afghanistan, R.Hougland noted that as soon the authorities consider the situation around the security possible for holding fare and free election, they will fix a final election date. Concerning Afghanistan public claims on civilian casualties within the military operations of international forces in Iran, R.Hougland said that he personally knows Khamid Karzai for 20 years as an honest man. ?As the president he bears liability for all citizens of the country?, the diplomat noted.
