Timofti elected as Moldova's new president

BUCHAREST. March 16. Moldova's parliament elected on Friday Nicolae Timofti as the country's president, according to news reaching here from the Moldovan capital of Chisinau, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

Moldova, landlocked between Romania and Ukraine, has been in a protracted political stalemate as the parliament could not elect a head of state. For almost three years, the country has been headed by acting presidents.
